This an artist proof of the etching Feeding Time. It is a small etching which has been created by drawing into a zinc plate and printing the plate in black ink. It shows a puffin with a beak full of fish. Touches of colour have been added to the beak and the feet of the puffin and the fish in the beak, by hand painting in watercolour paint onto each print.
This proof is one of the early prints and has slight colour variations in the watercolour paint detail. This proof was used to experiment with the colour before the final edition was printed. The etching proof was also used to experiment with how to ink up and print the zinc plate which means the etching is printed paler than the final edition.
